WHAT ARE THE FREELANCER RATES?
At the outset of a freelance search, the DMOC Placement Counselor will review the client’s budget as well
as share the current marketplace rates for that specific position. it is our experience that rates can vary depending
on several factors: level of expertise required, turnaround time for deliverables, duration of project, workload,
staff responsibilities, and more. DMOC’s goal is to use our best efforts to represent all parties equitably
and to make a financially workable placement. Part of the rate discussions will include whether or not the IRS
considers the freelancer to be an on-site employee or an independent contractor.
WHEN SHOULD I USE THE DMOC PAYROLL SERVICE?
If a freelancer is at the client’s location full time, that person must be paid as an employee. DMOC’s
payroll service handles all the tax mandatories and follows the IRS guidelines for its weekly payroll.
The freelancer or ‘temp employee’ completes a W-4 form before the project begins and is paid weekly.
Off-site or part-time consultants handle their own taxes and, thus, are paid a gross amount on a pre-arranged schedule.
Some clients, such as advertising agencies, prefer to handle payroll for the DMOC freelancers. DMOC can
accommodate these special requests.
WHAT SIGNED AGREEMENTS ARE INVOLVED?
DMOC has a standard contract that is the foundation for each placement. It includes a confidentiality clause,
assurances of DMOC’s responsibility to adhere to local and federal laws, and an exclusivity covenant that
covers a 12-month period. The specifics of each placement are stated in DMOC’s Schedule A. A corresponding
contract is issued to the freelancer. DMOC follows industry standards for professional consulting services.
