1. HOW DO I REGISTER AS A DMOC FREELANCER?
If you have a direct or digital marketing background, you can register online and complete the skills form on the Freelancers Registration page.
2. HOW SOON WILL I HEAR FROM DMOC AFTER I SUBMIT MY RESUME?
If you have a relevant direct or digital marketing background and are in the primary locations we serve, you can expect to hear from us within 1 to 2 weeks. We will only contact freelancers whose work experience and residence are appropriate for our clients.
3. CAN DMOC HELP ME WITH MY SEARCH FOR PERMANENT EMPLOYMENT?
DMOC is a freelance-only service. Some assignments may have the opportunity for full-time employment, but they begin as freelance or consulting projects. DMOC is not a recruiter or full-time staff employment agency. We only consider candidates who are immediately available, not current staffers who are seeking other opportunities.
4. DOES DMOC PLACE FREELANCERS OUTSIDE OF THE NEW YORK METRO AREA?
DMOC’s clients are located primarily in the downstate New York, New Jersey, and Southern Connecticut area. Therefore, we focus on freelancers and consultants who can easily commute or live in this area. DMOC will infrequently receive job requests from companies in nearby states or other major metropolitan areas. In that case, we will consider candidates from these regions.
5. IF I AM PLACED ON A DMOC PROJECT, WILL I BE PAID AS A TEMPORARY EMPLOYEE OR AS AN INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR?
DMOC follows government guidelines regarding the qualifications for an Independent Contractor versus a Temporary Employee who works on-site, in a client’s office. Most DMOC freelancers work on-site. Therefore, the Internal Revenue Service considers the freelancers to be employees, albeit on a temporary basis. DMOC pays these freelancers through our payroll, filing the required taxes. (In some cases, the client will pay the DMOC freelancer directly, following the same tax guidelines.)
In all cases, it is “fee for service”. Freelancers do not earn
client paid vacation or client paid holiday pay. (See Freelancer Benefits for more details.)
If a freelancer works off-site, then s/he qualifies as an Independent Contractor and will be paid accordingly.
6. WHO PAYS DMOC’S FEE?
The DMOC client always pays our fee.
7. WHAT IS THE PROCESS FOR SUBMITTING TIME SHEETS?
DMOC provides a time sheet in the contract package, or you can download one from this website (see “Download a Time Sheet” on the Home Page).
To be compliant with DMOC policies, freelancers must submit supervisor-approved time sheets accordingly: On the DMOC payroll, weekly timesheets are due every Tuesday morning by 10:00 AM, the latest. On the client’s payroll, monthly timesheets are due on the first Monday of each new month.
We strongly recommend that all freelancers call to confirm receipt of these documents.
For any client-approved, out-of–pocket expenses, the freelancer must submit an expense summary and the original receipts within two weeks of the expenditure.
8. HOW QUICKLY CAN I EXPECT MY FIRST CHECK IF I’M ON DMOC’S PAYROLL?
Assuming all documents (including time sheets, contracts, W4 or W9 forms) have been signed and returned to DMOC promptly, you can expect to be paid after your first full week of work. DMOC pays its on-site freelancers on a weekly basis, unless other arrangements have been made in advance of the assignment’s start date
Checks are mailed on Thursdays before 5:00 PM at our local New York City Post Office.
9. SHOULD I CALL DMOC WHEN I KNOW MY ASSIGNMENT IS ENDING?
Yes, always notify DMOC as soon as you know your end date.
Then submit your updated resume to info@dmoc-inc.com, in order to be reactivated as an available freelancer.
10. WHAT DO I DO IF MY PROJECT SUPERVISOR OFFERS ME A FULL-TIME STAFF POSITION?
Contact DMOC with details and we will explain the easy steps to follow.
